Pen Pal Expectations
In our high tech world of cell phones, texting, blackberries, PSPs, computers and video games, we've noticed that our children have forgotten the art of writing. Penmanship and grammar almost seems a thing of the past.
Self expression through the written word with pen in hand has become a lost art, thus, our children are losing the art of one on one communication, the need to learn to spell words correctly and legible writing.
Our mission is to create a safe and educational PenPal program for children between the ages of 4-16. This program is also designed to connect children locally, nationally and globally in order to enlighten and empower with the sharing of knowledge and customs, thus, creating tolerance to people and thing that are deemed unfamiliar or different. This tolerance inevitably turns into the greatest gift; a love and respect for one another - small steps for a better community which leads to bigger steps for a better world.
We ask that the children write at least once a month. Each child should wait until their pen pal responds before sending another letter. They should feel free to send pictures of themselves
if they choose.
Each child will receive stamped envelopes and stationary for their first 3 letters. We ask that the parents/guardians read the letters before they are sent. Since we want our children to feel free to express themselves, we ask that the parent or guardian refrain from telling the child what to write. Instead, we should be considerate of their self-expression and the content of their letters.
